Table of Contents Kyle studied the official report one more time. No matter how many times he read it, he enjoyed it. Through combination of ship logs, debriefings, recommendations and assorted reports, a very comprehensive document had been prepared.

A hard copy of the report was to be hand-delivered to Walking Bear, Ambassador Sarek and Federation President M'Sheera. Reginald was doing a final proofreading and enjoying every minute. He was so deeply engrossed that he failed to notice the arrival of his commanding officer.

"Do you approve, Kyle?"

The admiral's aide tried to recover from his surprise. "Uh, yes, sir; I just finished. Starfleet's recommendation to remove all viriduim transponders from command personnel is very wise. The idea of our officer's movements and locations being tracked by the Romulans is quite... unsettling. Also, I saw that Johnston is now... much happier."

A smiling Kensington explained, "She was upset when her department was bypassed and Manusos 'appropriated' information that was intended for Starfleet Intelligence. However, Spock turned over all information gathered during the mission to her. Security will be sorting it all out for months to come."

"I was particularly impressed with Admiral Scott's recommendations regarding future starship design."

Kensington seemed to be enjoying Kyle's enthusiasm, "Which ones?"

Slightly flustered, Reginald scrambled for words. "Uh, well for one, the starship hull separation process, sir. His idea for a mechanical system to facilitate a manual separation sounds promising. It's too late to incorporate it in current construction, but it should benefit the next generation of ship designs."

"And that is why you were smiling just now?" Kensington continued to 'turn the screws' on his aide, all in good fun.

"Well not exactly, sir."

"Relax, Kyle, I understand your pride in a job well done and rightly so. Did you enjoy your duty in space?"

Kyle swallowed hard, "Well, yes, sir. It was good to be working with friends and on board a class one starship again. Who could ask for more?"

The admiral smiled. "More? How about a permanent shipboard assignment? I can arrange it."

Reginald thought for a moment, staring at the mission report. Then he looked Kensington in the eye for his reply. "I was part of an amazing operation, sir. A once in a lifetime opportunity, only a handful of people will ever know the entire truth. That's enough for me. It's good to know I can still hold my own on a ship. However, the whole adventure has convinced me I can best serve Starfleet right here at Headquarters."

"All right, Kyle, if that's the way you want it. Your planning and preliminary work helped to make the mission a success. You have a right to decide how you want to serve. But I'll tell you something that is not in that report. Reginald Kyle has been promoted to the rank of captain, and if he so wishes, he can name his next posting." Kensington smiled at his last statement.

"If it's all right with you, sir, I'll stay here, at least for now."

Shrugging, Kensington agreed. "Okay, have it your way, but unless you want to get into hot water for being out of uniform, you better put that extra gold braid on, A.S.A.P.!"

"Jumping to his feet in mock terror, Kyle came to attention. "Aye, sir; just as soon as I deliver these mission reports!" Kyle then turned and ran out of the office and into the corridor. As he walked along, and headed towards the Grand Admiral's office, he found himself smiling. He really felt good about himself and his job.

Eventually, Kyle would become the Chief of Special Operations, with Kensington's recommendation.
