Table of Contents The Enterprise made two more very tense orbits to confirm there were no more signals forthcoming. Afterwards, to decrease the possibility of detection, Spock ordered the ship into orbit around the outermost planet in the Romulan System. It was a small world called Romii and was largely uninhabited. Therefore, it was relatively safe for the Federation starship.

During this process, Sebor had passed in and out of consciousness. While he was able to, the Vulcan had confirmed a positive location of the captives' transponders. Once orbit was achieved around Romii, Spock had gone to meet briefly with Koord.

Shortly afterwards, Sulu called for a shift change to help with frayed nerves and fatigue. Once again, the rumor mill geared up and word was spread that the mission would probably be abandoned.

The mood aboard ship was somber at best. The combination of Cee and his teams being lost, plus Sebor's wounds, were all very disturbing to the crew. That, coupled with the news that the captives had been located before the teams could perform a rescue, created a depressing atmosphere.

The final blow came when Sebor's condition worsened. McCoy knew that the burn phasers had caused extensive and devastating injuries and felt helpless. Worse still, Sebor's weakened state restricted the surgeon's ability to help.

A joint decision was reached by the shipboard doctors to treat the injuries on an 'as needed' basis and let Sebor rest. Several procedures were carried out to help with immediate concerns. After a reasonable amount of time, the team would perform a series of operations to complete the overall treatment. McCoy was holding an ace up his sleeve. Based on prior experience with Spock and Sarek, he knew he could use a certain Rigellian drug to stimulate blood production and he would employ it when the timing was right. For now, he simply wanted to stabilize the young Vulcan. Unfortunately, Sebor was unable to initiate the Vulcan practice of self-healing; another blow to the treatment process.

After all the doctors had done, though, Sebor nearly succumbed to his injuries. Spock returned, as it was thought the time was right for someone to receive Sebor's katra.

In an amazing turnabout though, Spock was able to instill a will to survive within the injured man by using a meld. Sebor stabilized and McCoy had even complimented Spock on his effort.

But Chapel had noticed Spock as he left sickbay. There was a look on the ambassador's face she had never seen before. From there, the ambassador returned to his own quarters and gave orders not to be disturbed unless an emergency arose.
