6.B Rank and Promotion System

The USS Kitty Hawk has a rank and promotion system to recognize both service by our crew and its development. In keeping with our core goal of community service, these types of events earn the most points. However, like any (fully-)volunteer organization, help is also needed from the membership to keep things running at all levels, which doesn't go unrewarded.

Crew development can also be seen through attending STARFLEET Academy, with most courses earning a promotion point upon completion.

6.B.1 Ranks
There are two tracks of ranks on board the USS Kitty Hawk -- enlisted and officers. There's an additional choice to be made between Fleet (Navy) ranks and Marine ranks. There's also a third option in the officer track: MACO (Military Assault Command Operations) ranks.

All new members start in the enlisted track and earn Fleet ranks by default. Switching to the officer track is as easy as completing STARFLEET Academy's Officer Training School (OTS). Unless you take OTS within ninety days of joining STARLEET, the promotion point total will reset at this point. If you wish to make this jump, the best advice is to do it early in your STARFLEET career so that your promotion points will help you advance as an officer.

Do note that the only two positions on the Kitty Hawk that require OTS are the CO and XO, as mandated by STARFLEET.

6.B.2 Promotions
The Command Staff will track each crew member's promotion points.

Up to two-thirds of the points need for a promotion can come from Academy classes -- meaning that at least one-third of points needed for any given promotion must be from service.

Notes
O-5 to O-6 960 1 year Granted by the Regional Coordinator based on CO recommendation
Becoming an O-6 does not require someone to be a chapter CO. STARFLEET has created a path to O-6 that allows for a recommendation to be made to our Regional Coordinator. Several of the crew have attained O-6 through this method, so it's definitely very possible to advance this far.

O-7 & Beyond
Promotion Notes
O-6 to O-7
O-7 to O-8
O-8 to O-9
O-9 to O-10
O-10 to O-11
Granted by STARFLEET via recommendation
O-12
Reserved for the CS (Commander, STARFLEET)
Advancement to O-7 through O-11 is based (almost) entirely on service to the region/brigade and (especially) the fleet/corps, but continuing what got you to O-6 is also necessary.

There's only one way to reach O-12 -- win the STARFLEET election for CS.

6.B-3 Earning Promotion Points
Most promotion points are earned by doing something (
Event Points), but there are also some opportunities to provide ongoing service to the chapter, region/brigade/battalion, and/or fleet/corps. (Several of the crew do provide service outside the chapter, each to a different aspect of STARFLEET.)

This list covers most ways to earn points, but do contact the CO with suggestions for other things to add.
