Table of Contents Before activating the door call circuit, Spock stood in the corridor outside Koord's suite for a moment. Despite the excellent sound abating features of the new ship, it was obvious that the Klingons were in the middle of a 'heated' discussion.

Forgetting his diplomatic background for the moment, he activated the door chime and announced his presence. He had previously requested a meeting with the General and so he was expected.

There was a silent pause lasting several moments, then Koord himself appeared at the entry. The old warrior broke into a broad grin. "My friend, 'gunner,' I was wondering when you would pay me a visit. Please come in."

Spock bowed, a slight diplomatic gesture and entered the suite in a sweeping motion and took a seat.

The other two Klingon officers were standing next to the small conference table, located in the middle of the room.

Both of them had fire in their eyes and it was obvious that Koord was the only one glad to see the Vulcan diplomat.

Koord still had his smile, "Is this official business or are you here to talk of the old times?"

Spock immediately regretted that the meeting was only for official business. "General, the rescue team has worked out the final details and wait your endorsement." He handed the Klingon a data tape and waited. The plans were pretty much finalized, but letting the general give them the final nod would do much to further good relations between the two governments and maybe go a long way to make up for Koord's disappointment at not being part of the actual rescue team.

The general quickly sat at his desk. Placing the data tape into the table's viewer, he checked through the various notes while Spock studied the man's reactions. Outwardly, at least, he seemed pleased.

Finally, he looked up and smiled again. "Excellent! Your people do outstanding work, so the mission should go well."

There was a guttural sound of contempt from one of the other Klingons.

The noise brought a look of contempt from the older officer.

Spock seized on the opportunity to test the waters. "Is there a problem, General? Perhaps I can be of service."

Koord waved off the offer, "Just a little 'dissention in the ranks.'"

Spock's eyebrow inched upward a bit and he pressed further. "In what manner, sir? Do they feel there is a problem with our plans?"

Dar grunted, then began to address Spock in a less than diplomatic tone. "We understand that you have placed certain --" he sneered at the last words "-- conditions on the operation."

Spock looked surprised. "Indeed, to which conditions do you refer?"

"Not killing Romulans," Kef spat viciously.

"And not allowing us to go to the Romulan home world with the rescue team," Dar added.

Spock thought for just a quick moment then offered, "I had hoped that by restricting you from activities on Romulus I could minimize Romulan casualties. After all, they currently have enough problems to deal with."

The room was rocked by a huge belly laugh from Koord. "Well spoken, gunner!" Then he turned to address his two companions. "You see, they know us too well!" Turning back to face Spock, he added, "You have my approval and I agree to all of your conditions." As he finished, he eyed the two trouble makers contemptuously. "And so do they, whether they like it or not!"

Spock rose quickly, bowed again and moved towards the general.

Koord pulled the data tape from the viewer and handed it to Spock. The Federation ambassador returned the data tape to his robe and added, "Starfleet thanks you." He then added, "And I thank you personally, sir."

Koord stood and returned Spock's bow and smiled, like the understanding friend he had become.

Then Spock turned quickly on his heels and left the suite without any further words.

As soon as the doors closed, Koord yelled at the officers and picked up the argument where they had left off prior to Spock's visit.

In the corridor, Spock cocked his head to one side slightly and listened. The old general had his hands full, but would have no trouble keeping the unruly pair in line.
