Like I mentioned in the last mailer, 7 of the 8 spots were accounted for in the playoffs, but there was a lot of room for "moving around". Well, moving around did indeed occur and it has taken me a while to figure it all out :) Here are the last weeks results and their implications for the playoffs: The Airballers played the NoTrump division winner HOT DEATH, and needed a win to grab the last playoff spot. They got the win 31-26 and were led by an inspired B. Baxter and Philly defense. The loss did not cost HOT DEATH, they remained in the 3rd slot. The Airballers go .500 for the season and make the playoffs, but get the 7th slot because ... The Cloggers looked to improve their playoff standing by playing the lowly Anarchists, but the Cloggers were surprised and took a tough 27-22 loss. The win ends the 10 game losing streak for the Anarchists and gives them some hope for 9th place. The Cloggers, with the Airballer win, drop to the 8th slot in the playoffs!! Team Lightning was looking to improve their standing, but the Linemen were playing for pride, and pride won 33-22. With the win, the Linemen are looking good for 9th place, but the Lightning loss drops them to the 6th position in the playoffs. The Bastards needed a win to assure the #1 slot in the playoffs. The Bombers were looking for 4th. The Bastards pulled it out Monday Night and won by a 38-36 count. (I checked it 3 times Scott :) The win gives the red-hot Bastards a 5 game winning streak going into the playoffs, while the Bombers claim the 5th slot. The Wildcats needed a win to keep their playoff hopes alive, while the Trouncers were trying to break into the top 3. The Wildcats won 37-27 with almost everyone contributing, but it was not enough. The Airballer win closed the door, but the Wildcats will probably seal the 9th spot. The Trouncers remain in the #4 slot. The Steelers needed a win to seal the division, and try to reclaim the top spot. They defeated the Bombjacks 28-20 and lock up the 2nd slot. The Bombjacks are now 11th, but can play for 9th. IF the teams cannot resolve a winner in the NORMAL TIEBREAKER FASHION (like the Cloggers and Lightning did earlier), then we will start at the first back-up, and count ANY points they scored. TEAM DEFENSES CAN BE PLAYED AND SCORED IN THIS FASHION!!! For EXAMPLE: The Cloggers and Lightning starters played to a 16-16 tie. (week 8) The NORMAL TIEBREAKER METHOD has been exhausted. Now, here is the breakdown of the EXTRA tie-breaking procedure: The Cloggers were the home team, so their first sub was scored: k | K. Willis, TB (1 extra point. Cannot break tie normally, but now WINS!!) In this playoff example the Cloggers would win 17-16. NOTE: If Willis had not scored at all, the GIANTS defense for Lightning would have won it for them. The final: 20-16 Lightning.
